Conventional Container Types

20', 40' standard and 40' high-cube containers

These are the containers you see everywhere: 20’ standard, 40’ standard and 40’ high cube containers. The shipping lines use these for the vast majority of goods that are moved around the world. These containers are used everywhere. Because they are so ubiquitous, you can get them in used condition and in one-trip/”new” condition as well. These are the containers you see everywhere. Waiting for a train? See one sitting storing some goods looking all pretty and new? Chances are they are one of these 3 sizes regardless if they are new or used.

Used

The shipping lines use shipping containers for 7-14 years before they are sold to wholesale sellers like Super Cubes. They generally don’t come up for sale before then. Unlike cars, we rarely see “barely used” or “just a couple of years old” containers. They are either one-trips (just fresh from China), or they are ones that the shipping lines have used to get their money’s worth, but still good enough that they can be resold. For more information, check out our conditions page to find out about wind- and water-tight and cargo-worthy condition containers.

One-trip/”new”

There is always demand for these containers and often people want them new. We can get them fresh from China where they have many only one trip from China to the US. That is as new as we get here in the US. You’ll hear the terms “one-trip” and “new” interchangeably, but all “new” containers in the US are actually one-trip containers because they have made one-trip from China. Check out our one-trip page for more information.
