Find the Right Lock for your Shipping Container

The securement loops have a perfect spot for a padlock

If you are using a shipping container for storage, chances are that you have valuable items inside of it. Its important to keep your valuables locked up. But if you aren’t sure how to lock your container up, there are two ways for you to do that.

See this content in the original post

The first way is using a pad lock on your locking rods. All shipping container opens the same way. First the right hand door and then left hand door. You can add on a padlock where the door levers set in the lever holders for additional security. We recommend the disk locks that have the least amount of shackle exposed.

The second way is using a lockbox. A lockbox is a box that is welded to the right-hand door and a steel post that is welded on the left-hand door. When the doors shut together the post fits inside the box perfectly. You put a padlock on the post. A lockbox adds in extra security and protects the padlock. Having a lockbox can help secure your padlock, making it very difficult to break or cut into it. There are three different types of lockboxes.

One-trip shipping containers should come with a lockbox, but you might want to confirm that when buying. The issue with one-trip container lockboxes is that they are quite narrow and so they require a padlock that fits in it just perfectly.

When buying a used container, know that it does not come with a lockbox unless that is very specifically spelled out. If your used container does not come with a lockbox, you can have us add one on before we deliver it to you. We also sell them for you to weld on yourself. See photos of green container below.

We also have a new option for one that does not require any welding or tools. This is a quick and easy option for those who do not want to use any tools on their container. Close the door like normal. Slide the lockbox over the lever and keeper. Keep sliding down until the horizontal bar meets up with the lever. Then flip the keeper over and lock as usual. See pictures of the black lockbox below.
